Problems with HSBC’s credit card promo

For the past few months, HSBC has been running a promotional campaign to push their credit cards to the market.

From February 1 to May 31, for example, they are giving away a free Kenneth Cole Reaction Wallet and Key Fob to qualified individuals who apply for an HSBC credit card.

Previously they offered free Mango and Timex and Dunlop watches.

But some cardholders are complaining that it’s been months since they qualified, but they are still waiting until now to receive the gift items.

Some PMT Forum members have shared their experiences in a discussion thread in the PMT Forum.

Says PMT member mehriels:

I really don’t know how to express my inis with the customer service of HSBC. This is because i am entitled to a free Mango watch as my card application was approved last January pa. Guess what, hanggang ngayon wala pa rin sa ‘kin yung voucher and I have to make follow-ups pa just so mas mapapabilis ang pagpapadala sa ‘kin.

Ang dami nilang reasons kesyo na-return to sender (e ni hindi man lan nila ko in-inform na ganun, nung tumawag ako saka ko lang nalaman na ganun at isa pa yung bill ko d nare-return to sender). Tapos 2-3 weeks daw delivery after ma-dispatch voucher. Super kainis sila. And then a week after ako mag-follow-up, hangang ngayon they are asking me to wait e malapit na matapos ang redemption period. Bakit nman ganito ang HSBC?

Says cool_78:

Sa akin naman ‘yung dating Timex and Dunlop watch promo nila. May voucher nga palagi pero wala namang stocks…

  1. I got my Kenneth Cole Reaction voucher on time and the wallet was, fortunately, in stock. I picked it up last week with no hassle. My only comment is, it isn’t as high-quality looking as I thought a Kenneth Cole Reaction wallet would be. It looks like it was just manufactured solely to be given away as freebies. It doesn’t seem, er, sophisticated. Oh well. As long as it’s free. 😀

  2. Hi Joni. That really sucks. At the least, HSBC should have made sure that the items they are giving away, although free, should be something clients would want to have. What then is the incentive to join the promo if the free gifts are not something one would want, right? The items may be free but they should not be lousy.

  3. i was approved with a card and was given a voucher to claim the kenneth cole reaction wallet on time (good) but the thing is it wasnt really what I expected, the wallet was flimsy and was a far-cry from the wallets that are for sale in their display counter (totally sucks)

if i knew it was that bad, i wouldn’t really bother getting it… i think the cheapest Girbaud wallets (900 pesos each) looks better than what HSBC is giving away…

  7. It’s not only their promo that sucks! Even their latest billing. Last month I received by billing statement on the same date that my bill will be due and the terrible part was they won’t reverse the finance charge!
